What is Curator System Administrator?

Overview

Curator System Administrator is a web application client which is installed within IIS on every Curator System.

It has a direct API call to the Curator Server service only, and it used to manage various aspects of the Curator System which are all stored within the MySQL database which the Curator Server service controls.

The website can only be logged into by the sysadmin user and should only be used by IPV, a trained Partner or a trained Customer System Administrator of the respective Curator System.

It is accessible either directly via https://IISServerHostName/CuratorSystemAdministrator or via Curator Gateway (SSL with Curator Arrival or standard HTTP in prior Curator versions).

Functionality sections

Users

  • This area lists the users by username who have access to Curator. The user list can be a mixture of Curator-created users and Active Directory users (if Active Directory via LDAP is configured).
  • As the System Administrator user, you are able to create new users here. In cases where AD/LDAP is set up the primary way of having a user set up to use Curator would be to have them login to a Curator user interface (Clip Select, Clip Link, Logger or Curator for Adobe) with their AD credentials. They will then be added to the list which is present in the database.\\

Workgroups

  • This area consists of workgroups that are both manually set up in Curator and those that are pulled in from Active Directory via LDAP when a user logs into Curator.
  • Any AD workgroups should not be edited here, but instead, changes should be made in AD (that includes workgroup membership).
  • Users can be added to workgroups in this section (again, only recommended for Curator-created workgroups).
  • Metadata permissions on a workgroup by workgroup basis can also be amended here on this page.

Folders

  • This section is where Curator Folder Permissions are administered. Read, write and delete permissions can be applied to a folder on a workgroup-by-workgroup basis and the System Administrator also has the option to Propagate any permissions they set down into all child folders from the level they set the permissions on.

Metadata Names

  • This section contains the listing of all the metadata names available in the system, along with which Asset Type they are relevant to and the permissions that are set for each metadata field on a workgroup by workgroup basis.
  • The System Administrator can set up new metadata fields here, amend existing metadata fields, add enumeration values and control read/write permissions for each of the workgroups on
    the fields.

Metadata Views

  • This section contains the various metadata views which are used by other Curator applications for various operations.
  • The typical setup here is completed on the initial installation and configuration of the Curator System to the customer's specification (usually as per the Metadata Model requirements).
  • There are options available to add metadata fields to existing/new views and order the positions in which those metadata fields appear in the view listing.
  • In addition, new Metadata Views might be set up to be used with the the Search & Report plug-in.

Configuration

  • The Configuration section is another which is set up on the initial installation and configuration of the Curator System. This section controls the configuration for both Curator Connect and Curator for Adobe Extension.
  • Although the configuration can be amended in this section, it's highly recommended to contact IPV or a trained Partner prior to making any adjustments to anything in this section.
