Welcome to Curator's Partner Support Documentation.
This documentation applies to the Curator 3.5 Release.
Here all the information required to deploy and configure an OOTB Curator system can be found.
Curator 3.5 is the latest version of Curator. Should you require instructions for the previous versions these can be found in here.
Please find the software to be installed here.
Overview of changes in this version
The Edit and Publish module including workflows, Curator for Adobe 3.3, and support from Curator File Service 1.1 and Curator Server 4.0.1.177 has been extended in order to:
Support the use of Motion Graphics Templates (.mogrt files).
Provide full support for graphics files stored in S3.
Run natively (without Rosetta support) on ARM / M1 architecture Macs where the Adobe software itself allows native running of the extensions. Photoshop v22.3.0 (2021) or newer requires the use of Rosetta.
Appcues have been provided to guide users in added functionality in Curator for Adobe (mogrt) and Clip Link (creating and modifying bookmarks and sub-clips). During deployment, the Appcues should be turned on for these applications.
The Ingest module including workflows and Curator Connect now allows the ability to optionally ingest mezzanine files and inclusion of the CONTENTS folder in C300 card ingest.
The Ingest process will no longer generate image Essence (old style Image proxy) by default. This is not needed by the newer Curator applications and lack of Essence generation will reduce the size of the Curator Server database. If you intend to support Curator Clip Select in Curator 3.5, you will need to apply an additional step during Process Engine configuration to amend a MediaStore to generate the Essence.
Authentication and authorization in Curator Gateway has been further extended to help manage workgroups declared in 3rd party OpenID provider.
For more details see the Release notes:
Release notes
The following efficiencies have been introduced in Curator as of release 3.5:
Images are no longer stored in the database by default but via File Service.
Faster Process Engine Agent process start-up.
Curator Logger (2.3.1.67). A number of bug fixes have been made as of this release in order to improve performance.
IPV Curator Connect-1.6.1-92(Win)/1.6.1-96(Mac).zip - replaces version 1.6.1-42:
- GUI updates for missing dependent metadata alerts, autocomplete and drop-down list controls for dependent metadata.
- New functionality to optionally include when uploading C300 footage folder CONTENTS and any children within it.
- Mezzanine Files: Please refer to the Mezzanines: What are they and how do you configure Curator Connect to upload them? article for more information on these and how to set this up.
- Curator now supports the use of Motion Graphics templates (.mogrts) which can be created in Adobe After Effects and imported into Adobe Premiere Pro. Mogrts are packaged elements that have been reduced into a single file format, and are most commonly used for branded titles, lower thirds, bumpers, graphs and credits.
- Where image assets are stored in AWS, it is now possible to use these directly with S3 - this change applies to Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop specifically.
- For Mac users running ARM hardware (M1), it should now be possible to run Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 natively with Curator for Adobe running automatically inside. Note that in Photoshop v22.3.0 (2021) and newer, users on ARM hardware Macs MUST run that specific Adobe program in Rosetta mode in order to continue having access to the Extensions option to use the IPV Extension.
- As part of the latest release of Curator for Adobe, a series of Appcues tutorials have been added to help guide you through some commonly used processes and new features appearing in the panel. Available Appcues tutorials can be accessed by clicking on the bell icon at the top of the panel.
Please note that Appcues must be enabled in order for tutorials to appear.
Appcues can be enabled on web apps by accessing the web.config file (accessed via IIS manager within the IIS server) and opening it in a text editor, then searching for <Appcues enabled="false" account="68366"> and changing the word false to true: <Appcues enabled="true" account="68366">
For Curator for Adobe, Appcues must be enabled in Curator System Administrator. To do this, go to the Configuration tab, select Curator for Adobe, select a configuration version, then select the Default group option. From here, under Appcues Settings, tick the Enabled check box. The rest of the settings here should remain unchanged as shown in the image below:
Repeat these steps for all of the groups you wish to have access to Appcues if any groups other than Default are declared.
- The way hi-res images are imported in the Curator for Adobe Panel has changed to get hi-res from Curator File Service. For more information on this, please refer to the Importing hi res images in Curator for Adobe article.
- It is possible to assign an API route based on user Roles assigned in the Curator system
- Curator API /api/v1/users and /api/v1/usergroups can now be filtered on user properties such as userName etc.
- Unsolicited requests from external Identity Providers (IdPs) using SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) are now supported. This allows the IdP to initiate the process of opening Curator App and authenticating to it instead of Curator.
To enable this go to 'External Providers' in the 'Configuration' section of the left panel. Select an existing external ID provider or add another one. In the configuration for the provider, there is a new option: 'Allow Unsolicited Responses'.
- My Apps Role separated sections are now collapsible
- Help tab linking to https://help.ipv.com/ has been added to Curator Gateway
- building on changes in Curator Gateway 1.6 previously in this release:
- It is now possible to import workgroups from any OpenID provider and then use these to define user permissions.
- When logging in to Curator Gateway, the External Provider Login will now display as the primary option and the Curator Local Login will now display as the secondary option.
- When configuring an external provider, both Enabled and Default tick marks will now match the configuration for the selected external provider.
- It is now possible to import workgroups from any OpenID provider and then use these to define user permissions.
Curator Server
- (from 4.1.1.185) - Change made to prevent operations timing out when using Curator System Administrator to set workgroup permissions, clone workgroups, set permissions, and move deep folder structures.
The new method allows the operations to complete in larger databases in particular with many folders and many permissions given to workgroups. It should be noted that the index update following the above operations is now asynchronous which means that the correct folder full paths and correct workgroups with permissions to a folder, while, with this fix, complete in the database quickly and securely, still take time before the Solr Delta Update is triggered and then for the Solr Delta to update the search index.
- (from 4.0.1.176) - Small changes have been made in order to enable an improvement in compatibility with non-standard installations:
It is now easier to deploy Curator Server on older systems that contain additional tables within them compared to OOTB. Curator Server will now load with existing additional tables carried over by default - no manual modifications need to be made to the configuration file.
Curator Clip Link (3.3):
As of this release, it is now possible to create clipmarks directly from within Clip Link. Sub-clips and Bookmarks can now be loaded, and their in/out points can be edited directly within Curator Clip Link without the need for any external editing software.
When selecting Pinned Searches from within Clip Link, the saved search will now display the appropriate results.
Curator File Service (1.1.1.34):
Several UX changes have been made to support the synchronisation of metadata between Curator Server and Curator File Service, including the ability to:
View metadata synchronisation activity and synchronisation failures.
Create specific download selection criteria where multiple download locations exist for a file.
Replace broken file links directly from within File Service.
View further asset details and user activity from within File Service.
For more information on these changes, please refer to the Curator File Service Deployment & Configuration article.
Where assets are stored in AWS, it is now possible to use these directly with S3 as we synchronise file paths with S3 metadata, allowing you to synchronise metadata names between Curator Server and Curator File Service. This change applies to Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop specifically.
Curator Media Agent (Hot-Fix v1.1.1.9)
Fixes possible corrupted thumbnail generation from AME generated proxies
Device Director (Hot-Fix v5.18.1.72)
Device director Hot Fixes the issue with the Device Director service website not updating job statuses.
Device Director is now tolerant of new Storage Class settings in SoDA S3 Storages, which were previously unable to be parsed and caused SoDA jobs to fail (DD-1019). Device Director is also now more tolerant of the AME "NotFound" state - rather than assuming it is automatically a failure we now assume that it's a transitionary state and waits for a better state we understand.
Process Engine (2.18.1.41):
It is now possible to restore assets from the S3 archive storage tiers.
It is now possible to import and export specific process definitions via the Process Engine Monitor website.
The ImageMagick Library has been updated to include support for more image formats, such as CR3.
Efficiency improvements when starting PEA processes: PEA starts processes more quickly compared to previous releases (especially when complex arguments are present) allowing for better throughput from Device Director.
Please note that the 2.18.1.41 release of Process Engine includes the new Workflows-Core-3.5.0.9.zip file built into new installations. If you are upgrading from a previous release (e.g. Process Engine 2.17) then you will also need to install the updated Core module in the usual way following installation.
Workflows (3.5):
It is now possible to ingest and manage CR3 images.
It is now possible to initiate a restore from AWS S3 Glacier and Deep Archive Tiers.
The Modify Curator Asset workflow has been extended to support setting metadata conditionally on a regex match.
The default behaviour has been changed to not generate the Essence for an image. This is needed to support Clip Select. If you intend to support Clip Select in Curator 3.5 or later, this can be amended in the Image-Proxy MediaStore.
The following improvements have been made to reporting:
A workflow to email an asset report has now been added.
Update Asset Status has now been made into a standardized transfer target workflow.
Issues with duplicate subclips via AWS Transcribe have now been fixed.
Issues with invalid characters in proxy names have now been fixed.
New Vidchecker and Vantage modules are now available.
Xfer Agent 2.13.1.24 (hot Fix)
This version fixes Xfer Mud to reliably fail jobs where the Partial File Restore is unsuccessful and an issue with re-wrapping fragmented MP4 produced by XCode 4.0.
